Visit Quito in Ecuador

Quito in one of the most important cities in South America. Capital of Ecuador, it is located in the northwestern area on  the eastern slopes of the volcano Pichincha at over 2.500 mt of altitude. The city is an important business, industrial and cultural center in Ecuador.

The city of Quito was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1978.  It was one of the first cities in Latin America to be registered, because of its beautiful and well-preserved historic center full of important monuments.

In the historic center there are in fact several beautiful churches and chapels (over 40 of them), monasteries, delightful squares, state buildings and museums. One of the most famous monuments id the church of the "Compañia de Jesús" that is the greatest example of Baroque in Latin America. Another beautiful sight to see is Plaza Grande where you'll find the splendid Cathedral, the Archbishops Palace and the Carondelet Palace, seat of government.

The best way to see Quito is taking the TeleferiQuo, an aerial tramway going from the city center to the east side of the volcano at over 4.000 mt altitude. Form up there you have a stunning view of  Quito and its surroundings, which includes  several natural parks and other great attractions.

Quito certainly deserves to be visited and it’s an ideal destination for spending a great time in Latin America, whether it is spending time outdoors, visiting historical sites or enjoying good cuisine.
