The Matter of Well-being

Since ancient times, wellness has meant health, the state of being without sickness. In its widest meaning, wellness embraced different aspects of the being, including physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social states.

Today we have gone back to the original meaning in which wellness or being well is strictly related to the different aspects of an individual's life. The research of a person's wellness has led to the development of an important economic and touristic sector. Today it is very common to go to a wellness and cosmetic center, a spa and to thermal hot springs and baths, as part of a vacation in search of a well-being that we oftentimes find hard to achieve in our everyday modern lives. The World Health Organization (WHO) itself identifies the importance of a person's well-being as an essential a "state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" that allows a person to reach and maintain their personal potential within society.

The research of one's own well-being has recently become a priority for individuals. Saunas, massages, yoga and special body treatments are just a few of the many means used to reach a relaxed and pleasant state of well-being. In the last few years, cosmetic surgery has also gained importance in contributing to be a person's sense of well-being, particularly about the way a person feels about themselves. Thanks to recent advances in technology in the form of more efficient medical lasers, cosmetic surgery has become more popular because it offers quick, affordable results in reaching one's own physical and mental wellness.
